     We Learn Bees Using Proteomics

"Innovation Team for Honeybee Proteomics" was founded in 2005 along

with the introduction of Prof. Jianke Li as an “Outstanding Scientist (class Ⅱ)

of Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS)”. This team is currently

composed of the Chief Scientist, Prof. Li, and 6 other members, including 2

“Xiangshan Talented Young Scientist”, an institute level of Talented Scientist

Program.

Based on the critical requirements in both technological and theoretical aspects

in the beekeeping industry, the research interests of the team has been focused

on elucidating the molecular underpinnings of honeybee biology applying

proteomics approach. After 10 year’s efforts, the team has established a leading

position in the area of honeybee proteomics in the world. The major breakthrough

of the studies are in the areas of revealing the molecular underlings of how bees

secret royal jelly in hypopharyngeal gland, honeybee developmental biology, and

the biological function of royal jelly proteins. So far, about 80 papers have been

published related to honeybee proteomics in the world, and nearly 50% of them

were published by this team in the leading journals such as Molecular & Cellular

Proteomics and Journal of Proteome Research.

  What's New

1. New publiacation in Expert Opinion on Therapeutic Targets: Proteome of

thymus and spleen reveals that 10-hydroxydec-2-enoic acid could enhance

immunity in mice.

2. New publiacation in LWT-Food Science and Technology: Gas chromatography-

mass spectrometry analysis reveals the differences in volatile components of

royal jelly from different honeybee stocks.

3. New publication in Molecular Ecology: Behavioral, physiological, and molecular

changes in alloparental care givers may be responsible for selection response for

female reproductive investment in honey bees.
